Course
Description:
This
course will be a reading of Wisdom Literature in the Old Testament.
Sung Kim will help the students read from the prospective of those
who are steeped in Wisdom Literature as in Asian and Buddhist
traditions and cultures.
Before
class students will read Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Job. With the
following questions in mind
-
Are justice and happiness congruent? Or, are you just to live a happy life?
-
What do the texts say about the suffering of the just?
Students
are also to develop one question that they have of the
readings.
Required
Texts:
The Bible – NRSV as well as other translations
Course
Requirements:

Attendance at both class sessions.
-
Read the text before class bring insights from the questions and their own question to class.
-
There will be on short writing assignment that will be developed during the class that will be due in the next couple of weeks.
